Delete your account

You can delete your Begonia login at any time. This page explains how to do it, what is deleted, and what your childcare center may have to keep by law.

Delete in the app

1. Open Begonia and sign in.
2. Tap Account in the bar at the bottom of the screen, then Account settings. You can also tap the circle with your initials at the top of the screen, then Account settings.
3. Under Your account, read what is deleted and what the center keeps.
4. Tap Delete my account, type DELETE, and tap Delete for good.

The deletion happens right away. You are signed out, and that email address can no longer sign in.

If your login is also a staff login at the center, the app will tell you. The center has to separate the two first, so that deleting your family login does not remove your work access by mistake.

Staff

Staff delete their own login the same way: Account settings, then Your account, then Delete my account. Your staff record stays with the center, because it is the center's personnel and time record. Whether you still work there is between you and your center.

An owner first hands the center to another owner (Settings, Access), then deletes their login. To close a center's Begonia account instead, email us.

Without the app

Email hello@begonia.care from the email address on your Begonia account. Tell us the name of your center and that you want your account deleted. If you write from a different address, we will need to confirm it is you before we delete anything. We will let your center know, because it may hold records about you or your child that it must keep.

What is deleted

• Your login: your email sign-in, your password, and your two-step verification settings.
• Your personal settings and contact details on your account: your email address, phone numbers and home address.
• Any payment method you saved yourself.
• Your read history, and the link between you and any survey you answered.
• Any unused invitation for your account, so it cannot be used to sign in again.

Records of things you did, such as checking a child in, stay in the center's records without your login attached.

What your center may have to keep

Childcare centers are required by law to keep certain records. These are the center's records about a child or about its staff, not part of your login, so they stay with the center after your account is deleted:

• Your name, and your relationship to your child, because who may pick up a child is part of the child's file.
• Your child's file, attendance records and incident reports.
• Messages you sent the center, because the center is a party to them.
• For staff: employment, time and certification records the center must keep.

How long depends on the center's state. In North Carolina, for example, a child's file is kept for a year after the child leaves, and attendance records and incident reports are kept for as long as the center's license is valid. Your center can tell you about its own records.

Payment methods the center saved for your family are part of the center's billing records. Ask the center to remove them.

How long it takes

Deleting in the app happens right away. A request by email is completed within 30 days, and we reply to confirm when it is done.
